Massage on the Rocks

Have you ever walked into a toasty warm house on a cold winter day and automatically felt relaxed; embraced by the warmth? That's the same feeling you get when you experience a stone treatment at your favorite spa. We offer LaStone Therapy - a 90 minute massage with hot basalt and cool marble stones, and Massage Enhanced with Stones - a 60 minute massage with warm stones targeting problem areas.

LaStone Therapy was developed by Mary Hannigan in 1993, but stones have been used as wellness tools for over 2,000 years. Shaman used (and still use) them for healing, Native Americans used warmed stones on the belly during menses, and Pilgrims used them to heat their beds.

Warmed basalt riverbed stones are used to enhance the massage, clear toxins, and balance energy. We heat the stones to between 130-140 degrees Fahrenheit. Cool marble stones are also used if needed (i.e. for inflammation). The ancient Romans theorized that hot contrasted with cool was a recipe for good health, so they took hot baths and would then lie on cool marble tables. They were definitely on to something.

Physiologically, the chemical reactions of blood and lymph exchange are accelerated by the use of hot and cool stones. Mentally, the client reaches a state of relaxation in minutes that is unparalleled in regular massage. Many clients report having felt a spiritual awareness during the massage. An overall balancing of energy is achieved by means of the LaStone experience.

Here?s how it works: During the service we use 54 warmed basalt stones, along with a scented oil of your choice. You will be lying on top of a few stones comfortably arranged on both sides of your spine. We will also place some on the top of your body, including on the chakras. Towels completely cover you for the duration of the service. Stones are used to massage the entire body, and a few are placed between your toes. The stones range in size from that of a dime to that of two hand spans.

Either stone treatment will feel great in the winter freeze! The warmth will fill your body and take you to another level, another world - dreamlike. Come in from the cold and experience the heat, with stones!

Introduction to the Fat Transfer Procedure

Fat transfer involves suctioning out a small amount of fat from the knees, abdomen or thighs and moving this fat into the facial area (example: laugh lines, frown lines or lips). Fat transfer is a much more advantageous approach and leads to permanent improved changes in facial contour. Permanent injectable fillers are not recommended, such as silicon, gortex, methyl methacrolate, or artecoll which are considered unsafe. These permanent fillers can lead to major deformities. The fat transfer procedure is considered to be the safest fillers if used by a qualified surgeon since it uses your own fat. Lips are also being permanently enhanced using the fat transfer technique.

1) Fat Transfer is excellent to permanently fill in the following facial areas:

?Glabella ?Nasolabial and retrusive maxillas ?Lips ?Nasojugal fold ?Chin creases ?Vertical lip lines ?Depressed traumatic scars ?Some types of facial rhytids ?Submalar area ?Cheeks ?Lower eyelid depressions over the infraorbital rim ?Nasal depressions ?Acne scarring

2) Fat Transfer is excellent to permanently fill in the following trunk and extremity areas:

Congenital deformities of soft tissue and/or muscle

Correcting liposuction deformities

Fat atrophy defects from cortisone injections

Traumatic soft tissue defects

3) Informed Consent:

Patients will need 1-3 sittings for the fat transfer procedure no closer than three months apart.

4) Fat Transfer Technique:

Can be performed under local anesthesia or with IV sedation or in conjunction with other surgical procedures

Herb Nature's Panacea for Curing Ailments

A herb can be any plant that cannot produce tissue that is persistent and woody and whose lifespan is limited to a particular season when it attains the full growth and ultimately dies. Moreover, a herb can be medicinal or a seasoning plant ? a herb having aromatic qualities and grown on pots even in households to accentuate the savory sense of the dishes. In the hippy culture and parlance, herb can be the marijuana plant. Mentionably, some herbs are pests.

Since the days of yore and much before the march of modern medical sciences, mendicants foraged the forests to collect all forms of herb to make magical concoctions that served as panacea for human ailments. In fact, such herbal medications were prescribed to even the cattle to cure some of the dreaded ailments attacking these beasts of burden.

Man has always built bridges with Mother Nature to seek the wonder world of herb. The alternative forms of medical treatment like Ayurveda and Unani have been drawing inspiration from that very fascinating world of herbs. Indian Epics ? the Ramayana and the Mahabharata ? as well as the Hindu holy books ? the Vedas ? have copious references to herbs and herbal medicines. There are tomes written on the medicinal properties of the different genus and species of herbs.

Mention may be made of Ganoderma -- the mushroom popular in Asia as the wonder health drug and deemed so for thousands of years. The Chinese deem it as the ?Spirit Medicine? and an immortality elixir. Now modern research has proved its beneficial side. Ganoderma can not only to heal inflammation but is also an ideal detixicant, and diuretic medication. Moreover, it protects the liver, boosts energy, regulates the intestines, promotes libido, cures sleep disorders, and is a cardiotonic. What is more, Ganoderma keeps blood pressure under control, is an antitussive as well as a hemocatheresisis and an expectorant besides being a tranquillizer. Above all, it controls activity of the tumor. Ganoderma not only nourishes but also supplements the body by removing the accumulated toxins from our body. Another aromatic medicinal herb is the commonly used garlic. It is antiviral and also possesses antibacterial properties. Moreover, it checks blood pressure and cholesterol and acts as a shield against stroke and heart ailments. Garlic has been in use for more than 6000 years. Garlic also fights infection and cold symptoms. What is more, garlic cures athletes foot, respiratory ailments, worms, tummy cancers, ear aches, colic, and bladder problems.

Non Small Cell Lung Cancer

Approximately 80 percent of people with lung cancer have non-small cell lung cancer. Depending on the type of cancer cell present, non-small cell cancer is in turn divided into several subtypes. Squamous cell carcinoma begins in thin, flat surface cells that line the respiratory tract, and is the most common type. Adenocarcinoma forms in cells that have a secretory or glandular function. Adenosquamous carcinoma begins in flattened cells that also have secretory properties. In sarcomatoid carcinoma, cells look markedly abnormal under the microscope. Carcinoid tumors grow slowly, and release hormones when stimulated by the nervous system. Cells in salivary glands in larger airways can also become cancerous.

Cancer cells in non-small cell lung cancer can produce hormones or hormone-like substances to cause certain conditions called paraneoplastic syndromes. These conditions include high blood calcium levels, abnormal clotting, overgrowth of certain bones and those in the fingertips in particular, and abnormal breast growth in men.

People with non-small cell lung cancer tend to be diagnosed later in the course of their disease, making these a difficult group of cancers to treat. The type of cancer, its location and stage, the presence of symptoms, and the patient?s overall condition and ability to withstand treatment all affect the ultimate outcome. Symptoms include breathlessness, chest pain, coughing up of blood, fatigue, fever and weight loss. A diagnosis is typically made by imaging, a lung biopsy, and blood tests.

Early non-small cell lung cancer can be treated by surgery. Once it spreads to surrounding chest tissues and to lymph nodes, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are frequently employed. Newer forms of treatment include laser therapy, photodynamic therapy, and biotherapy. The five-year survival rate for early non-small cell lung cancer is close to 50 percent; five-year survival drops to about two percent in the most advanced cases. A number of clinical trials are underway to find better treatment options. The National Cancer Institute website provides information on such trials.

Lung Cancer provides detailed information on Asbestos Lung Cancer, Lung Cancer, Lung Cancer Stages, Lung Cancer Survival Rate and more. Lung Cancer is affiliated with Asbestos Exposure.

Acne Treatment Taking Care Of Mild Acne

Acne has three stages of diseases - mild, moderate and severe. If acne can be treated during the first stage itself, you can save tremendous amount of effort and protect yourself from the agony of bad looking scars that form after third stage of acne. Catch acne in the mild stage itself and don?t let it grow to second and third stage.

Mild acne does not need more intensive forms of treatment. Many acne sufferers treat themselves with OTC medicines for acne. Some patients prefer to consult a doctor at this stage itself to protect themselves from any flare up of acne.

Let us discuss the common treatment available for mild acne. Over the counter medications consisting of salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide can control mild acne that is mainly whiteheads and blackheads. While using these medications, wash your acne prone area with mild sop/cleanser and warm water twice a day to remove excess oil and dead skin.

Some times these products may cause dryness, redness or peeling. Use an oil free moisturizer if the peeling is present. The skin takes some time to adjust to the acne medication. If irritation occurs, you should consult your doctor. Please remember that acne medication takes time to treat acne. Many time up to eight weeks to work. Keep patience and wait for the results to get acne cured. If you don't get results after that, you should consult your doctor. Your doctor may prescribe other medicines to treat acne.

Exercises to Improve Your Health Energy Digestion and Your Love of Life!

Did the title of this article catch your attention? I hope so. Most of us don't mind finding out new ways to feel better and have more energy. Yet, I'm afraid I'm not going to teach you anything that you don't already know.

Some people talk about the ?benefits? of exercising, such as increasing blood flow to your brain and major organs, improving digestion, reducing stress, increasing alertness, and boosting your immune system. That's a way to look at it.

Another way is that since our bodies are meant to move everyday, so it's not that exercises brings us any ?benefits? - this should be our natural state - but it's more that not exercising actually has negative consequences!

According to an article published in the Health & Fitness sections of the About.com Site, skipping exercise for two days in a row has bad effects on health.

It makes sense that we're meant to live an active life. Being sedentary was not the norm for human beings, even in the Western world, until just a few decades ago.

If you want better health, improved digestion, more energy and love of life, make a commitment to exercise EVERY SINGLE DAY, even if it's just to go out for a 30- minute walk.

Personally, I never had a session of exercise - biking, a long walk, hiking, yoga, weight lifting, or running - that I regretted. Even though I might not have felt like doing it when I started, I never thought to myself, Jeez, I shouldn't have gone for that bike ride or That was such a bad idea to take that yoga class!

***Exercise and Hunger***

When you exercise everyday, you will awaken your ?true hunger.? If you've read my book ?The Raw Secrets,? (http://www.therawsecrets.com) you know the importance of eating when you are truly hungry.

We know for example that hunger is widely recognized as a sign of health. Lack of appetite is also widely recognized as a sign of ill health.

Now, many of you have written to ask about this true hunger concept. Some people say that if they only eat when they are truly hungry, they hardly eat anything at all! Not even enough to sustain them.

The key to awaken this lost sense of hunger is to exercise everyday.

***Walking More for Health***

I'm personally trying to implement a new habit in my life. Every morning after I wake up, I go for a walk. While this is not the only exercise I try to get, it is a great way to start the day.

Otherwise, what I normally do is either start working immediately or check my e- mails. Not a good thing. With the morning walk, it gives me time to wake up, breathe some fresh air, get some exercise, meditate (or something like it), and if I want I can listen to audio-books on my iPod while walking.

Are there many health benefits to walking? Yes, but those are many health benefits of exercising in general. A 1-hour brisk walk with a few hills burns around 300 calories, so as many as a 30 minute jog.

Walk an exercise most people can do and the joys of walking are numerous. Breathing fresh air, taking time to see new places, beautiful surroundings, etc. It's also an exercise most people can do or start doing.

If one day you have absolutely no desire to exercise, go for a 1-hour walk. You'll feel much better afterwards.

A dog needs to walk everyday or else it's not going to stay healthy. Isn't it the same for us?

***Rebounding Exercises for Health***

What exercises can you do on a rainy day? Some people like to go jog in the rain, the mud and the cold. They are the brave ones. I like to watch them from my window. But seriously, that's not my style.

What can you do instead? I found a great workout I can do inside on a rainy do (or when it's too cold to go outside). It's rebounding, a way to exercise that is complete and has several health benefits.

I won't talk about the so-called benefits of cellular exercise. Because of the up- and-down movement of rebounding, apparently the lymph gets moving and this helps to detoxify and slow-down aging. I'm not sure if this is true, but it sounds great.

For me, the real benefits of rebounding is that it's something you can do inside on a rainy day. Plus, it can be a great cardio-endurance-toning workout if you know what to do with the rebounder.

So two tips for rebounding:

1- Get a good rebounder. Not those cheap ones at Walmart. Get something that will last and will give you a real bound. My rebounder is a NEEDAK that I got on E-bay.

2- Get a DVD workout for rebounder. Most people have no idea what to do with their rebounder. I had one for years and the only thing I was doing with it was to jump up and down once in a while, and it got boring. Since then, I got a great DVD which as several workouts, one which is 45 minute long and is great for many aspects of fitness. You can get it from Urban Rebounding, a company that also sells rebounders.

***The Magic of Calisthenics***

Everybody should learn a series of body-weight exercise. Not only are they something you can do anywhere (even when traveling), but they are also great to build strength and endurance.

Calisthenics include pushups, pullups, squats, lunges, and so on, including the thousands of variation on each exercise that can allow you to get the results that you want (strength training or endurance).

In a future article, I will give you a routine of body-weight exercise you can practice anywhere to have a great workout at no cost.

***Multi-Tasking***

Finally, I'd like to add that doing cardio-vascular exercise or walking can be a wonderful way to grow and learn. You can listen to recordings (either on a tape or CD player or iPod) to learn languages, listen to audio books, and learn something useful at the same time.

When I was studying German, Spanish and Portuguese, I was using every single minute I could to listen to language learning methods, including during exercise (but not during sleep!).

Now, I listen to audio books (I have a subscription to Audible - http:// www.audible.com) and learn about things that interest me. I listen to audio-books when I'm on my bike, when I go for a walk, and of course when I drive. I listen to music too, and sometimes I just look at the landscape.

Whether you use this exercise time to also learn and grow is entirely up to you. But keep in mind that daily exercise in a health requirement - and also a great joy!

Jog and Stay Fit

Jogging is usually an exercise program followed by athletes and sportspersons. But even ordinary people can choose this fitness program for their general body fitness. But before starting this fitness program you need to consult a physician to confirm that you are healthy. After the checkup you can start running during the mornings or evenings and continue it until you feel fatigued. Gradually increase your timings and choose a place where you can continuously run for at least thirty minutes.

Select a day in a week for running fast; it may be done on Wednesdays. Start off slowly and gradually increase the speed until you feel exhausted and your muscles become heavy. Slow down again till you breathe normally and start with speed again. Repeat this till your legs become heavy.

You may take a day off if you feel exhausted. Probably on Sundays you can jog a longer stretch. Start off with a 30-minute run and go on extending, week after week till you are able to run up to 90 minutes. Let Monday be a holiday and on Tuesday run slowly. On Wednesday take time to run faster.

Even if you are engaged in the other programs like rowing, cycling, swimming follow the same schedule.

Mesothelioma The 3 Main Types

In general, mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer. Different types of mesothelioma are distinguished between by where the cancer is growing. Pleural mesothelioma, the most common, accounting for 75% of all mesothelioma cases, is where cancerous cells develop on the lining of the lungs. The next most common form of mesothelioma is peritoneal mesothelioma and this is where cancerous cells grow on the peritoneum which is the lining of the abdomen. Pericardial mesothelioma, the least common major form of mesothelioma, makes up roughly 5% of all mesothelioma cases. This is where malignant cancer cells grow on the lining of the heart.

All three of these forms of mesothelioma are caused by asbestos. Asbestos is a naturally occurring fibrous mineral that was discovered around the 1860s. Due to its highly useful property of being fireproof, asbestos was used greatly in construction in the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s. It was not until the early 1960s when the severe health hazards that asbestos causes were discovered, that asbestos stopped being used. When exposed to asbestos with insufficient protection a person will breathe in tiny asbestos fibres which are suspended in the air. These fibres pass into the respiratory system until they become lodged in the lining of the lungs. Over time, an accumulation of these asbestos fibres in the lungs can cause pleural mesothelioma. Asbestos fibres may also pass into the lymphatic system and be transported to either the lining of the abdomen or the tissue surrounding the heart. This may cause either peritoneal mesothelioma or pericardial mesothelioma.

In terms of symptoms, the three main types of mesothelioma have some symptoms in common with each other. These symptoms are usual of all three types: chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing, coughing up blood, vomiting, nausea, weight loss and loss of appetite. An additional symptom of pericardial mesothelioma is palpitations.

There are a few treatments for all types of mesothelioma but none of these have a high success rate. The effectiveness of the treatment depends on how early and how aggressively the cancer is treated. If the cancerous cells are treated when they have fully matured and developed then it is unlikely that treatment methods will be successful. Treatment methods include chemotherapy which is the use of drugs to kill the cancer, radiation therapy which uses a radiation dosage to kill off cancerous cells and surgery which attempts to gain long term control over the cancer by removing a large portion of malignant cells. These treatment methods can be combined in the form of dual therapy.

Natural and Dietary Therapies for Acne

The typical modern medicine answer to outbreaks of acne include antibiotics, drying agents, skin peelers and in some cases a very toxic and strong drug Accutane TM. All of these will normally work for a short period of time, but eventually, if the original cause of the acne is not addressed and treated, the acne returns, usually stronger and more widespread than before.

Many of the common theories regarding the possible cause of acne point to the improper release of toxins. As the skin is the largest organ of the body, it helps to eliminate toxins and waste through sweating if the kidneys and liver are overburdened. When a person's diet is unhealthy, their hormones out of balance or their skin clogged, acne is usually one of the red flag symptoms.

In using natural therapies to treat acne, the focal points of treatment are to decrease the amount of toxins that need to be excreted, balance the hormones, and in general, bring the body back into balance. All of the above can be regulated through diet, herbs and other nutritional supplements.

Vitamin and mineral therapy is a good place to start in the quest to clear up a case of acne. Crucial additions to the diet include essential fatty acids, chromium picolinate, and zinc. A variety of vitamins such as Vitamin A, B complex with extra B3, Vitamin C with bioflavonoids, Vitamin D3, and Vitamin E are also helpful in supporting the body while it works to come back into balance.

Herbal therapy includes any herb that works to detoxify the liver and kidneys. Examples include burdock root, dandelion leaves, milk thistle and red clover. Burdock root and red clover also help in cleansing the blood which is another important part of the overall therapy to decrease acne outbreaks. For hormonal balancing many claim that chaste tree berry works very effectively.

Regardless of the type of treatment you decide to use, always check with your doctor first about the natural therapies you would like to try.

A Basic Guide on Medications for Acne

Over the years acne has affected millions of people in their early teens and for many on into their adult life. Each year new acne treatments hit the market, each claiming to stop further acne breakouts. Yet no one medication for acne has been proven to do that.

If you're like so many acne sufferers, and have a medicine cabinet full of various acne medications that don't work, you need to stop and get back to the basics of acne care. Your first step is to become knowledgeable about what acne is and how it develops. Visit your doctor, or better yet consult with a dermatologist about your acne condition. Your dermatologist may recommend over-the-counter medications for acne or if your acne is severe, you may need prescription acne medication.

Much of the medications for acne available today consist of several products (systems for controlling acne), which includes an acne face wash, exfoliator or toner and some lotion. The combined use of these acne medications can have dramatic results in acne blemish control. Though they will likely not cure your acne, they will, when used properly, significantly lessen the number of acne breakouts.

These acne blemish control systems include:

Face wash or cleanser:

The face wash or cleanser is used to fight bacteria. Some are designed to combat bacteria, both on the surface and within the pores. At the same time many contain tiny granules to help exfoliate dead skin cells and impurities. The two most common ingredients of face washes is either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Each of these ingredients approach acne control in different ways.

Benzoyl Peroxide:

Benzoyl peroxide used as an antiseptic to lessen the number of surface bacteria and skin yeasts. It is available as a gel, cream, lotion or face wash in varying concentrations.

Salicylic Acid:

Salicylic acid helps to slow down shedding skin cells inside the follicle, which in turn reducing clogging. It also helps breakdown, both blackheads and white heads. Salicylic acid is available in varying forms, like gels, lotions and medicated pads (Stridex) and in varying concentrations.

Exfoliator or toner:

The purpose of this gel or cream is to remove dead skin cells, unclog pores and remove excess oil. This one step is essential to acne blemish control. While not visible to the naked eye, clogging of the pores are a major contributor to acne breakouts. Again, depending on the manufacturer, either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid or another medication for acne may be included in this step.

Lotion:

The final step is applying a lotion. These lotions are usually oil free and used to moisturize, re-hydrate and reduce irritation of your skin. Some lotions may contain benzoyl peroxide to heal inflammation, which helps prevent future breakouts.

No matter which medication for acne you choose to use, following the acne treatment listed above will help to lessen your acne breakouts. Each step is an important step in active acne blemish control. The combined use of these medications can help to keep your skin clear and acne free. As with use of any medications, you should always consult with your doctor or dermatologists before starting any acne care treatment.

Bioflow Ecoflow Magnetic therapy

Magnetic therapy has been used in many parts of the world for many years to help relieve pain and accelerate the natural healing process of the body. For more than 5000 years the healing power of Lodestone (magnet) has been known and used for healing, which has been mentioned in the earliest of writings. It is a naturally occurring rock used for many years by different cultures for promoting health. It was even thought that Cleopatra used a magnetic substance to help preserve her beauty. The oldest known use of magnets to promote health can be traced back to Africa where a magnetite mine 100,000 years old was found. The magnetite was used in potions, foods and topical applications.

Natural magnets have also been known to be used by Ancient Greeks, Hebrews, Arabs, Indians, Egyptians and Chinese races.

The effect of magnotherapy is similar to that of acupuncture without the needles or or acupressure and osteopathy without manipulation. In truth no one really knows exactly how magnetic therapy works - just that it does! It must be said that the type of magnet is important. Having come across Bioflow magnets, they are different to other magnets on the market today. Some cheap brands claim their magnets relieve pain or increase stamina but the effects are minimal if at all and many people are cashing in on this ancient technique now available in the form of modern technology.

Bioflow, made by a UK based company called Ecoflow, has a patented magnetic module using a unique magnetic field called 'Central Reverse Polarity' which is completely safe. The theory behind CRP is that as blood passes through the field it is subjected to a magnetic pulsing effect which is believed to help the body maintain a balanced pH and maintain good conductivity in the cells, which is essential for good health. The unique CRP magnetic module has been designed to mimic the effects of pulsed electro-magnetic fields used in professional applications, but without using electrical power. Bioflow is available as a lightweight easy to wear wristband or bracelet.

To back up the positive effects of magnetic bracelets, independent studies in the BMJ published 17 December 2004 confirm magnetic bracelets can help to relieve pain in osteoarthritis of the hip and knee. The NHS has now also approved magnetic therapy for healing (April 2006).

Over 1,500,000 Bioflow's are being used by people and on animals today. Therapists, medical professionals, sports trainers, veterinary surgeons & people from all walks of life use Bioflow magnotherapy. This product is being recommended more and more as an effective natural health product by leading health specialists. Bioflow has been successfully used by top sports athletes, including Eric Cantona & Chris Brasher, the Olympic gold medal winner and founder of the London Marathon.

Bioflow has worked for numerous pets including dogs, cats, horses and sheep, so for sceptics - it's not all in the mind! A very large amount of testimonials from users of Ecoflow magnets, confirm that for many people and animals that they do help to relieve pain. The effects are noticeable within a few days to a few weeks depending on the condition.

Ecoflow provide a 90 day money back guarantee on their full range of magnetic products which also include magnetic fuel conditioners and magnetic water conditioners. Bioflow magnets work as well on water and fuel, as they do on blood, helping save the environment and fuel bills.

It must be mentioned that Bioflow magnetic products are not a cure. There is no substitute for sound medical advice and it is recommended you should consult your doctor first before using any Bioflow product, if taking any medicine or if you have any doubts.

What Is Acne?

Acne is a very common skin disorder that most young people, adolescents and young adults get in early age. It is caused due to inflammation of the small oil glands. Sometimes the openings of the glands become blocked, causing the formation of pus-filled swellings It is a a skin disease caused by overactive oil glands.

Teenage acne is seen mainly on the face, back, and chest. There are other, less common types of acne, sometimes caused by contact with irritant chemicals.

A potent skin irritant, escapes into the surrounding the deeper layers of the skin, causing hard pimples or pus-containing pimples. There are many myth regarding the cause of acne. The claim that dirt causes acne is a myth. Some connections have been found, thus keeping the skin pores clear of dirt may prevent bacteria from infecting the skin. This is not true for many people who experience acne as an adult, though the severity may vary. However, people above age 50 rarely get infected with acne. Acne is caused by the secretion of sebum, which has nothing to do with dirt and cleanliness.

But it is a curable disease, one has to follow some steps to avoid these acne. A harsh soap is good for acne. Only prescription drugs are effective when fighting acne. Wash your face after you have been exercising and sweating a lot. Acne medicine can take weeks or months to work.

Walking Is Good For Mental Health

One of the most natural things that an individual does every day is to walk. For years, this single act has been linked to improving cardiovascular health. The reason is because, generally, walking is a safe movement that isn?t likely to cause injury. New studies have shown that walking is also a terrific way to improve your mood. The next time you are feeling a little blue, there may be a way to walk it off - literally.

A recent study paired individuals into groups, one of which spent 30 minutes on a treadmill and the other that participated in 30 minutes of rest. Each group?s progress was monitored throughout the treatment with a conclusion that both groups reported having less negative feelings at the end of the study, along with less stress and tension. The difference, however, was found when the group that spent 30 minutes walking also noted an overall improvement in well-being.

While the study further proves the theory that walking is good for mental health, as well as physical, it also lends credence to the theory that people who walk feel better overall. It also proves that an individual does not have to be outside in order to enjoy the benefits of walking. This simple exercise can be achieved with a treadmill or by simply walking in place while tuning into a favorite movie or television show.

Anyone who has been diagnosed as having clinical depression or other illnesses should not ignore, or disregard, his/her medical treatment program. Walking is simply a way to sometimes add further improvement to certain conditions. A simple 30 minute walk can benefit an individual?s mood, improve cardiovascular health and combat obesity all at the same time. In order to be effective, many people find that a daily walking schedule will help to keep them motivated and improve their spirits. In addition, a regular schedule will ensure that there is a time set aside for a walk. It?s very easy to think, ?I?ll get around to it later,? but something more often than not will distract individuals away from exercise unless they have a certain schedule that is followed every day.

The information in this article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be considered as, or used in place of, medical advice or professional recommendations for an exercise regimen. Every individual should consult his/her physician prior to beginning any program consisting of diet and/or exercise.

Proper Treatment Of Back Acne Is The Key To Eliminating It

Back acne is a less common, but no less upsetting type of acne for those that suffer from its conditions. It is found on the back and can be a very painful and irritating condition. It can also be more awkward to deal with due to the fact that the sufferer cannot always reach the infected area to properly treat it. This means that they might have to ask other people to help them to apply creams or other treatments and this can be very hard for them and make them very embarrassed about the whole thing. Of course, the problem with this is that it might make them less likely to apply the acne solution or medication, as they have to ask for help, and this can lead to it not being treated the way it should be or at all.

As with all types of acne it is important to keep the area that is affected as clean as possible. This is to make sure that there is no build up of excess oils because this has been proven to make the condition worse. It is also important to make sure that you are not using skin products that could further aggravate or irritate the acne condition or skin blemish. Make sure that the soap and shampoo that you are using does not contain any strong chemicals and that it does not have any oil it.

The best way to make sure that you are taking the right medication and using the right creams is to see your doctor or dermatologist. Although there are a lot of things that are available off the shelf, if the acne is on your back and you cannot see it properly, then it is a good idea to see your doctor as they can make sure that you are getting the right treatment in order to eliminate your acne. It is also a good idea to get a pharmacist to recommend a good range of soaps and bathroom products that will not affect your skin badly or cause any additional acne flare=ups on your back.

Back acne is an unpleasant condition but although the position is inconvenient, it is treatable. However, it is very important to make sure that you see your doctor or dermatologist so that they can recommend a good course of treatment. This way you are much more likely to be able to treat it effectively. There are a lot of very good treatments available for acne and although you might need to ask for help to apply them if you are unable to reach the affected area, it is worthwhile and it could make a lot of difference to you and the skin on your back.

Abdominal Massage

This form of massage is beneficial in constipation. It stimulates the peristalsis of the small intestines, tones up the muscles of the abdomen walls and mechanically eliminates the contents of both large and small intestines. Abdominal massage should not be done in general, femoral, inguinal and umbilical hernia, inflammation of the uterus, bladder, ovaries and fallopian tubes, kidney stones, bladder or gall bladder, ulcers of the stomach and intestines, and pregnancy.

Abdominal massage should not be done after a heavy meal, but after two hours or so. The bladder should be emptied before the massage. The patient is made to lie on his back with his knees drawn up. This enable the abdomen wall to relax. The masseur should stand at the right side of the patient and use his finger tips for friction round the umbilical region from right to left.

He should likewise alternatively knead the walls and roll with both hands, making deep and firm pressure. He should knead with the hand and finger tips and keep clear of any wound or tender places. He should later take up massaging of the larger intestines.

The manipulation of the large intestine should begin on the right side. Keep it going upwards and across the transverse colon and move right down on the left side to the signoid flexure and rectum. Circular kneading should be done with the help of the three middle fingers. At the same time press into the contents of the abdomen, following the course of the larger colon with a crawling motion. Keep kneading by means of a few circular movements in one spot with the help of finger tips. Keep moving the fingers a little further along. Knead repeatedly. Use knuckles of the hand to make deep pressure along the large colon, moving the hands along after each pressure.

Once the kneading of the abdomen isover, follow up by tapotement with both hands cupped or use the knuckles of the hand. Vibration may also be employed. The patient could also be asked to do some gymnastic exercises for strengthening the walls of the abdomen. Since blood pressure increases during abdominal manipulation, patients with hypertension should avoid abdominal massage. Massage should also be avoided in cases where there has been recent bleeding in the lungs, the stomach or the brain.

Acne Medication Potential Side Effects

Patients with mild or occasional acne may be able to treat themselves without the use of prescription medication. Such remedies may include an alteration in diet and exercise habits, regular cleansing to remove residue and buildup on the skin, choosing the right cosmetics and eliminating stress. But for some individuals, this simply isn?t enough. For those who suffer from moderate to severe acne, a stronger medication may be needed in order for that individual to find relief from their condition.

There are several different types of medication that are commonly used to treat acne, each of which may contain the potential for certain side effects. As is the case with most over-the-counter acne medication, prescription medicines are usually available as gels, creams, lotions or solutions. In determining which is the best choice for the patient, a physician will study the skin type, severity of acne and the patient?s likelihood of having a negative reaction to any medication. Once a prescription is written, the physician will explain how often to use the medicine and how to properly apply it to the skin.

As mentioned previously, it is not uncommon for individuals to have a reaction to strong acne medication. For some it is only temporary, but others may require a change in their prescription. The most widely seen reaction is that of the skin?s condition actually worsening. Many physicians agree that most medications will cause the skin to worsen before it actually improves, which may take 6-8 weeks of using a medication. However, additional side effects may include extreme redness, burning, stinging, peeling, soreness, scaling or a discoloration of the skin. If individuals notice these side effects becoming increasingly worse or if they do not go away after a specified period of use, which should be indicated by a physician, the medication may need to be changed.

Individuals who take oral medications for the treatment of acne may face an entirely different set of potential side effects, including an upset stomach, dizziness and skin discoloration. Certain types of medication can be dangerous to women who are pregnant or children under a certain age, so individuals should report any possible conditions to their physician prior to accepting a prescription.

As with any medication, there are often risks and benefits of it?s use. The best way to learn of these is to speak with a physician, ask about any potential side effects and completely disclose your current medical condition and any medications that you are currently taking. In some instances, medications may negatively react with one another and this can be very dangerous to the patient. Acne medicine is no different and the patient should have a complete understanding of how it operates before using it.

The information in this article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be considered as, or used in place of, medical advice or professional recommendations for the cause, diagnosis or treatment of acne. If necessary, individuals should consult a medical doctor or dermatologist for information regarding the use of acne medication or other effective treatment methods.

Eat Right and Early Detection Key to Colon Cancer Fight

Two of the best things you can do to reduce the risk of colon cancer from causing your early demise is to eat right and to seek Early detection at the first sight of a problem. Colon cancer kills about 350 people out of 100,000 people, so although the risks are not high they are high enough to be of concern.

One thing of great benefit to know is that over the last decade or so thru good education and Early detection fewer people are dying from colon cancer. But there are a few things you need to look out for such as; blood in your stool and knowledge of your family and types of cancer that run in your genetic lines. If one of your siblings or one of your parents has had colon cancer you'd be advised to be checked out as early as age 40 and every five years.

If you are a woman and you've had breast cancer or ovarian cancer you might also be susceptible. If you have an iron deficiency whether you are a woman or a man this can be of concern. The survival rate of most types of colon cancer is quite high if detected in the earlier stages and this will definitely better your chances.

It is recommended you go to the American Cancer Society's web site and read all about colon cancer if you think you might be at risk or you just want additional information and details for a loved one. I hope you will consider all of this in 2006.

5 Insider Beauty Secrets Other Women Don't Want You To Know! (Part 1)

Imagine what you would do if you knew miracle working beauty secrets. And if you had the self confidence that comes with being beautiful.

Now before you laugh and say you?ll never be beautiful, listen up.

I know where you?re coming from! At one time I didn?t know any beauty secrets. Before I learned any beauty secrets I was plain, even bordering on ugly.

I had acne, chapped lips, weight issues, wardrobe disasters, and not so white teeth. But thats all become past with the 5 beauty secrets that have changed my life.

I pulled through all of my beauty nightmares and learned some valuable beauty secrets as a result.

Now people are always commenting to me on my beauty. Saying I should be a model, etc.... And guys are no longer even an issue! I don?t have to look for them, they come to me.

It turns out the best beauty secrets are those that are won by personal knowledge and experience. Not just by reading general tips in magazines.

So by experimentation over the years and by perseverance, I?ve found out what really works and what doesn?t.

Beauty Secret 1 Unchap and beautify your lips with this technique.

For soft, beautifully kissable lips, you need the following: a washcloth (I?m not kidding either), warm water, and your favorite brand of lip balm.

First you apply a coat of lip balm. Then wet one corner of the washcloth, put the warm wet corner of the washcloth between your lips, press them together and hold for 5 seconds.

Then gently massage any remaining lip balm from lips with the wet corner of the washcloth, and dry lips with a corner thats dry.

Apply lip balm again to keep your lips chap free. You may also apply lipstick or lip gloss on over the layer of lip balm.

I learned this was the best way to keep lips from chapping, after going through too many winters with dried, and chapped lips.

Beauty Secret 2 Clear your acne, and get beautiful skin.

For clear glowing skin, a little home remedy does wonders for my complexion, as it should with yours too.

Steam your face for 20 minutes every night after washing it, then every other night after steaming your face, massage a half teaspoon castor oil over face.

Leave it on at night while you sleep and wash off immediately upon waking.

Steam face for twenty more minutes in the morning after washing. When you finish steaming your face splash your face with cool water and dry it.

If your skin starts to show any signs of a pimple forming. Take one night off from steaming and applying castor oil and apply Benzoyl Peroxide over face.

Take the next night off also from the steaming, castor oil, and benzoyl peroxide. Continue facial regimen with steaming and castor oil the following night.

This beauty secret will moisturize your face at the same time it will help clear up acne and pimples. But only if you work at it consistently.

Beauty Secret 3 Good taste in clothes.

When shopping for clothes try to stay away from really big prints, or weird mixes of colors (eg. green, pink and blue flowers combined on a white background, for instance).

Clothes like these just scream ?I?m color blind!? And if you in fact, actually are color blind, always shop with a friend who isn?t and has good taste in clothes.

Buy basic colors. Solid reds, pinks, blues, whites, and blacks. Or things with small tasteful prints and designs.

Then mix and match each basic color with a corresponding one (blue goes well with white, pink, and sometimes with red, and different shades of the same color almost always go well together).

Put these beauty secrets to use, and start seeing the benefits today. Be sure to read Part 2 of this article, which contains the last 2 beauty secrets.

In Part 2 I'll teach you the beauty secrets for whitening your smile without draining your bank account. And how to use clothes to your advantage by hiding figure flaws and defects.

Holistic Medicine: What is It?

I practice holistic medicine and I?m often asked what that means. Here?s how I define it.

The Gift of Time. I set aside 90 minutes for the first visit to permit time to listen to my patient?s story. This way, I learn the many different factors influencing my patient?s well-being and can get to the root causes. I can?t do this in twelve, even 20 minutes. Sometimes a potential patient will ask why my appointments are longer than usual. I explain that my conventional medical training taught me to listen for symptoms then quickly order tests or write prescriptions. This model lets physicians see a large number of patients in a short amount of time. However, drugs and surgery silence symptoms, but rarely change the underlying disease. This never made sense to me, and I sought a different approach.

Restoring Health. I don?t fight disease. I help my patients restore their health. Each patient leaves with a regimen designed to create the causes and conditions for health. With that, their own self-healing ability, an idea that goes back to at least Hippocrates, cures their ailments. I have a special interest and faith in diet to do this, but I also use bioidentical hormone replacement, nutritional supplements, homeopathy, and cranial osteopathy. I often advise patients to learn mindfulness meditation, yoga or tai chi to cultivate mind and body awareness, and to calm their overtaxed nervous systems. I refer when other modalities seem appropriate, such as acupuncture or psychotherapy.

This model of restoring health is the model of the future. My hope is that more physicians will adopt it. Until then, the American Holistic Medical Association website http://www.holisticmedicine.org has a ?doctor finder? that can help you find someone like me in your area.

Treatment of Acne with Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is probably the most widely used treatment for acne because of its antibacterial and drying properties. It is available for use by everyone from babies to teens to middle aged persons. It is available in mild solutions for over-the-counter use and in prescription strength.

Benzoyl peroxide is closely related to industrial drying agents in a variety of products. The products sold for a quick repair to automotive bodies contain benzoic acid. Another use of a similar substance is as a preservative in food. It's a pretty affective way to remove liquids. Still it can be overly drying as can be deduced from its use in car repairs.

Naturally something as widely available as this substance is misused on occasion. Overly strong solutions sold for use on the thicker skin of the torso would be harmful if used on the face. This would be extremely true if the very strong solution sold for a young adult were to be used for a baby's delicate skin. The same substance can be prescribed for a baby but in a much more dilute solution.

This very simple approach to acne treatment enters the marketplace in many different forms. Whether used in soap or cleansing foam, it is just as easy to overuse this chemical. In any of its forms no matter how creamy the product may feel it really is the strength of the solution that determines the way in which it is to be used.

Baby and adult skin treatments use the lowest solution at 2.5% while the strongest solution at about 10% is used in the treatment of cystic acne of the body. A few applications for solutions of 1% are available for the treatment of rosacea acne.

Benzoyl peroxide should be used as part of a comprehensive treatment approach.

5 Tips for Acne Treatment

Acne is a problem that very few people really understand. Doctors and specialists alike are baffled as to why it strikes some more than others. An acne pimple is formed when a pore collapses. This blocks the sebum from escaping out of this pores as it would normally. Acne is more likely to be caused by hormones, vitamin deficiency, a poor diet or stress. A lot of time and money has been spent researching a cure and prevention from the onslaught of acne and as such there are numerous cures on the shelves that acne sufferers may want to consider using.

1- A bad diet is proven to cause acne, so sticking to a well balanced diet will certainly help clear up or prevent acne. Garlic and onions can be particularly helpful because these contain sulphur. Drinking lots of purified water can also be very effective, rehydrating the skin and improving your glands.

2- As well as a healthy diet and lots of water there are also vitamin and nutritional supplements you can take that will also assist in beating acne. Vitamins A, C and E are particularly helpful and combining these with zinc orotate is sure to have an effect.

3- Be careful about which moisturizers and cleaners you use on your skin. If you already suffer from acne this is especially important. Choose a mild cleanser and apply it twice a day to the acne infected areas. There are several specialist cleansers ideally suited to this task.

4- Be careful what you are subjecting your skin to. Perfumes, moisturizers and even some soap can flare up a reaction from your acne. Make sure you select products that are suited to your skin type and don't overdo the amount you use. Washing your face too often can actually irritate your acne and you should only do so twice a day.

5- Tempting though it may be you should try to avoid squeezing and picking. This can result in open sores that can easily become infected. By picking acne there is a good chance you will make it last longer. Ordinarily you can expect an acne pimple to last a week or more.

Candida Overgrowth Syndrome

Candida albicans (and other strains of Candida) normally inhabit our digestive system and genitourinary tract. A healthy person will have millions of Candida, which actually helps protect our gastrointestinal tract against many pathogenic bacteria. Our immune system normally keeps the Candida growth under control and in balance with the ?friendly? flora.

Antibiotics, birth control pills, diet high in sugar; environmental toxins may cause a decrease in the friendly flora, resulting in a Candida overgrowth. Cnadida albicans will then mutate from the yeast to the mycelial fungal form and start to invade the body. The fungal state can produce rhizoids (tentacle-like structures). Rhizoids can penetrate intestinal walls causing microscopic holes, allowing bacteria, toxins, and micro-food particles to enter directly into the blood stream.

Because of its many and varied symptoms, this disorder is often misdiagnosed. Both men and women can be affected, but it is rarely transmitted sexually. Candida albicans is the most frequently isolated fungal pathogen of humans. Many chronic health problems are related to Candida overgrowth. These include, but are not limited to:

?Genitourinary problems
?Fibromyalgia
?Digestive disorders
?PMS
?Muscle pain
?Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
?Psoriasis
?Leaky gut
?Food intolerance
?Asthma
?Multiple Sclerosis
?Allergies
?Sexual dysfunction

THE SPIT TEST

Want to know if you may have a Candia overgrowth problem? The ?spit test? is an easy and economical way to see if you may have a yeast overgrowth problem.

First thing in the morning, before you do anything, or put anything into your mouth. Work up some saliva and spit it into a glass of water. Check every fifteen minutes for up to one hour.

What to look for: Look into the glass. If you see ?tentacles? hanging down from your saliva, suspended cloudy specks, or your saliva sinks to the bottom of the glass ? you may have a Candida problem. If you have not seen any of the above after one hour, you probably do not have a yeast problem.

The saliva test is a guideline. Always consult with your doctor if you suspect any health concern.

The best defense is a strong, properly working immune system. If you would like a copy of Immune Building Protocol e-mail Dr. Enders at dr.dkenders@sbcglobal.net. Please put ?Candida? in subject line.

Top Treatments to Knock Out Acne

Acne sufferers are always searching for the latest and greatest acne treatment. Some acne suffers are often unable to find treatments that can completely control their acne. The success or failure of available treatments is on a case by case basis.

Many acne sufferers often become frustrated with the ineffectiveness of current treatments. This is especially true with products that are heavily marketed touting incredible results.

Acne sufferers also need to stay informed about what treatments are currently available. The quest for new and better treatments is an ongoing process.

There are a number of treatments that have proven successful. In most cases, your best option is consulting a dermatologist. They can explain the variety of options that are available. It will also be necessary to consult a dermatologist if prescription treatments are warranted.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl Peroxide is one of the most widely used over-the-counter acne treatments. It is applied topically in either jell or cream form. There are a number of products available, each containing different amounts of benzoyl peroxide. As some people are sensitive to it, it's best to start with treatments that have the lowest concentration.

Prescription Drugs

Prescription drugs are used in cases of severe acne. Initial drugs were antibiotics that were used to target acne causing bacteria. However, over time these treatments lost their effectiveness as the bacteria developed a resistance to the drugs. One of the more commonly prescribed drugs today is Accutane. However, this is a very strong medication and therefore can only be used by people who suffer from severe and permanent acne. It is taken orally and can have many side effects, including birth defects, dry lips and liver dysfunctions.

Essential Oils

There are also some essential oils with good results in acne curing. These treatments are not very efficient for cases of serious acne. However, they can be successfully used for treating mild to moderate acne. Tea Tree Oil, Bergamot Oil, Lavender Oil and Clove Oil are some of the best essential oils for acne treatment. If the essential oil needs to be diluted, use some grape seed oil to mix it with.

Light Treatment

Light therapy is expensive, but for many very helpful. It involves treatments of light in wavelengths that many believe kills bacteria, and if it does not work, at least does no harm because light at the wavelength used is not harmful to skin.

Sometimes the successful treatment only comes after trying several treatments. Sometimes success lies with a combination of treatments. Use the resources available on the Internet to help you make informed choices. Also consult with your doctor or a dermatologist.

Symptoms of Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is an extremely nasty and permanent cancer that infects the membrane surrounding most internal organs. It is also a very subtle form of cancer providing only a few noticeable symptoms until it becomes extremely advanced. The most common type of mesothelioma is called pleural mesothelioma. It causes shortness of breath and/or chronic coughing that can easily be mixed up with allergies or a common cold. In many cases mesothelioma is discovered by accident when patients are looking into these symptoms. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma include:

-Chest Pain
-Chronic coughing that worsens over time
-Shortness of breath
-Coughing up blood
-Fatigue
-Wheezing
-Lung infection
-Swollen lymph nodes
-Loss of appetite and weight loss

75% of all mesothelioma cases are Pleural mesothelioma. Another type is called Peritoneal mesothelioma. Peritoneal mesothelioma affects the lining around the stomach and intestines and can be just as dangerous and deadly. Symptoms of Peritoneal mesothelioma include:

-Pain or swelling in the abdomen
-Weight loss
-Bowel obstruction ? blockage in the small / large intestine
-Anemia ? reduction in number of red blood cells
-Fever

High risk groups such as asbestos and construction workers must undergo frequent check-ups to monitor any conditions leading to mesothelioma. Because this cancer is so deadly, early diagnosis and treatment can help prolong life, but the mortality rate is usually 100% within five years.

Nature's Home Remedy for Nail Fungus

Home Remedy for Nail Fungus - Oregano Oil

Also referred to as onychomycosis, toenail fungus or nail fungus is an extremely common condition that, if left untreated, can become quite unsightly and painful. Beginning as a light colored spot under the tip of the toenail, this fungus can continue to spread until the entire toenail becomes thick and yellow with crumbling edges. If no treatment is given to destroy the fungus, the fungus will continue to grow and eventually the toenail will have a distorted shape, the color may become green, brown, or black. If allowed to grow unchecked the fungus will deteriorate the condition of the toenail and a foul odor will be present. At this point the nail may become completely detached from the toe and there may be some significant pain in the toe itself.

Fortunately, toenail fungus does not have to be accepted as a distasteful part of life. There are many treatments available to eradicate the fungus that causes this unpleasant condition. Research has shown that oregano oil is just as effective as over the counter and prescription medications, however, it is gentler on sensitive skin and typically costs less.

Used both topically and internally, oil of oregano is a potent, natural antiseptic. Researchers have found that it is very effective specifically in fighting yeast, bacterial and fungal infections. Not to be confused with the spice oregano, which is actually oregano marjoram, the essential oil of oregano is distilled from the leaves of the oregano plant. The active ingredients in this product are thymol and carvacrol, which may constitute up to 90% of the oil in the highest quality of brands. It is important when purchasing this product, usually at a health food store or online, that you use a reputable dealer. Studies have shown that portions of the oil of oregano products on the market are actually made from the oregano marjoram that you can find in your cupboard. This product actually contains no therapeutic properties.

Taken internally, oil of oregano has been shown to be comparable to penicillin in fighting the Staphylococcus, E. coli, and Listeria and over 25 other powerful bacteria. This powerful natural oil has also been used with great success to eradicate intestinal parasites. Oil of oregano can be used to eliminate excessive amounts of the yeast candida in the body. Several weeks of continuous use have been shown to cure even the most difficult cases of yeast infection. The gum disease gingivitis and athlete's foot are also treatable with oil of oregano. Oregano oil has received much attention for its ability to combat fungal infections of the toenail.

There are no known negative drug interactions associated with oregano oil. However, it is quickly absorbed and should be taken with food to prevent upset stomach and heartburn. Although oregano oil is much gentler than many chemical treatments for toenail fungus, it may irritate sensitive skin, especially around the eyes and should never be used on the skin at full strength. If using this volatile oil topically it should always be diluted with another pure vegetable oil. Before using this product it is wise to do an allergy test by swabbing some of the oil on the inner arm. If the skin becomes red, swollen, or itchy, do not use it on other parts of the body.

To treat toenail fungus apply a mixture of oregano oil and olive, almond, or other pure vegetable oil to all areas of the toenail and finger that are affected by the fungus. The oil will absorb into the toenail and kill the fungus. This treatment should be done two to three times daily. It is essential to complete this therapy daily for four to six months. Even as the fungus dies and the toenail begins to clear it is vital to continue the treatment until the infected portion of the toenail has completely grown out.

Once the fungus has been eradicated and the toenail is completely healthy, it is vital to take steps to ensure that the fungus does not return. If you typically have a salon pedicure, be sure that it is a reputable one that understands the importance of sterilizing all manicure equipment. It also may be necessary to discontinue using toenail polish as it can trap moisture under the polish and encourage the growth of fungus. It is also important to keep the hands clean, especially after contacting fungus that may reside on other toenails because of the contagious nature of the fungus.

Wear socks that allow the feet to breathe, such as those made from natural fibers such as cotton. If you have exceptionally sweaty feet, give them ample time to dry out during the day, if possible. Never pick at toenails or skin around the toenails; as open skin is essentially an open door for germs. Keeping toenails clean and trimmed is important because fungus can make a home under the toenail.

Additional factors that put you at risk for nail fungus infections are cigarette smoking, diabetes, and working in an environment that causes continual sweating. By knowing the causes and the simple, effective treatment of natural apple cider vinegar, toenail fungus should no longer be a health concern. In addition to these precautions, maintaining general good health will also lower your risk of developing toenail fungus. Because fungus is only able to grow if your immune system is unable to fight it, take steps to see that your immune system is strong by eating well, getting enough rest, and exercising. Do You Visualize Whilst You Are Doing Breathing Exercises?

Q. I find breathing exercises very boring is there anything I can do to make less boring?

Have you ever used visualization when you are doing your breathing exercises, a lot of people think that breathing exercises are only a manner of sitting down and concentrating as they inhale exhale, which to the outsider can seem as being very boring and monotonous but here's a few things you can try out the next time, try?

?concentrating on a particular colour on inhalation and another colour on exhalation (for example some colour you link with calmness or purity, and another colour for stress or impurity)

?having a picture in your mind of your body and as you breathe in, think of all the extra parts of your lungs that have been under used because of bad breathing habits.

?Taking a breath and picturing the air coming into your body from different areas (such as the soles of the feet for example.)

It can especially seem complicated for beginners when starting out to do breathing exercises as you can?t see the muscles that they are working on but by visualizing their lungs in action in their mind it makes it all the easier to do?and remember when you?re doing your breathing exercises you're not really learning anything new but undoing all the bad habits you've picked up over the years.

Benzene Related Diseases

Benzene Related Diseases - Leukemia

There have been documented dangers of benzene for well over a century now. Even though benzene exposure often leads to leukemia, there are also many non-cancerous diseases that have been shown when exposed to elevated levels of benzene. Some of these other diseases include:

Myelodysplastic syndromes: also called ?pre-leukemia?, this is a collection of diseases resulting in diminished blood production and can weaken the immune system. This can result in leukemia.

Non-Hodgkin?s Lymphoma: this is a disease affecting the lymphatic systems and shares many similarities with leukemia. It can eventually affect the bone marrow in addition to other organs.

Aplastic Anemia: this is a condition where the marrow in the bone stops producing enough blood cells to replace lost ones.

Even though these diseases are not leukemia, they have strikingly similar resemblances. The victims who suffer from them many times can?t tell the difference. Even with proper care and treatment, victims of these diseases face an uphill battle exposed to pain and suffering.

Fluency Speech Courses

This article is all about how to achieve fluency and looks at the specific speech impediment known as stammering/stuttering. My name is Steve Hill, I suffered with a stutter from the age of four and despite regular conventional speech therapy, continued stuttering until the age of twenty-two.

I found life with a stutter extremely frustrating as at times I could speak very well. For example when I spoke to what is now my ex-girlfriend I very rarely had a problem, however when attempting to speak to her parents I struggled quite badly.

When I was drunk my fluency level also would improve to a level where I would be shocked if I stuttered at all.

I could not understand why I could talk to one person but not to another and why I could speak when I was drunk but not when I was sober.

I read many books about speech imediments, achieving fluency and stuttering and spoke to many speech therapists. From what I read and from what I was told, I was made to believe that I was unable to live a stuttering-free life as it suggested you are unable to eradicate a stutter.

This is a very negative attitude, however I could not really believe what I was hearing and reading as I knew I could talk very well at times.

I then was fortunate enough to watch Bruce Willis being interviewed on the television. He stated that he had had a stutter which had started when he was a young boy, however he had managed to achieve fluency when he was a late teenager. This was a huge inspiration to me and I then decided that I would attempt to overcome my own speech impediment.

After nearly a year of working very hard by reading books about positive thinking and mind over matter and by basically studying people who I thought were great speakers, I also managed to beat the stutter. As a career I now help other people to achieve fluency.

Vehicle Emissions

All over the world people are experiencing air quality changes due to vehicle emissions. Particularly in the peak of summer, cities have worsening air quality to the point where it has become ?normal? to hear air quality warnings. In Pakistan, vehicle emissions are responsible for nearly 90% of their air pollution. That is no wonder when you consider that 500 mature trees are needed to combat the emissions for every 20,000 km driven. There are currently more than 220 million registered automobiles in the U.S. alone and 1/3 of the average American city's land is devoted to serving the car.

According to the National Transportation Board, congestion will increase by 5.6 billion hours in the period between 1995 and 2015, wasting 7.3 million gallons of fuel unnecessarily. The Highway Users Alliance feels the solution to the congestion problem would be to build more roads. Others feel that providing safe pedestrian and bike paths and improving public transit should be considered. Tollbooths are sometimes used as a powerful persuader for alternative transit and car-pooling. In San Francisco, where vehicles containing three commuters do not have to pay toll fees, people now meet in parking lots in order to fill cars for the ride into the city. It may seem obvious, but few of us recognize that car-pooling reduces emissions by 50% with only two participants (one driver/one passenger).

Because of growing scientific evidence, vehicle manufacturers are rising to meet the consumer demand for more environmentally friendly products. Toyota and Ford, for instance, have incorporated hybrid electricity and hydrogen fuel cell technology in vehicles. Solar powered cars have also been released on the market. Sadly, though, few of these are within the average home's budget. Bio-diesel buses are also being introduced in many communities. These are powered by fuel attained from sewage plants or other bio-masses. Another encouraging thought is that individuals and organizations have convinced the government of the legitimacy of their concerns. In response a 'Memorandum of Understanding' was issued to manufacturers in 2001. It urges voluntary compliance to reduce emissions by 75%, to be fully implemented in 2006.

Disposability is another issue for vehicles, but corporations and governments are rising to this challenge. The Dutch, for instance, charge a tax on new purchases which pays for, among other things, research on finding ways to reuse every piece of the vehicle. Individual companies, such as BMW, take back their vehicles for recycling. One can always try to make a buck or two and sell the used vehicle at a car lot or though the classifieds. On the other hand, try junk car lots - where vehicles are broken down and either sold as parts or scrap steel.

For those of us that must continue driving used cars, there are still many ways to help in this global war against air pollution. At the station, purchase the cleanest burning fuel available. By replacing the filters and plugs regularly, keeping the motor well-tuned and maintaining properly inflated and balanced tires, you can improve fuel efficiency by as much as 15%. And did you know that simply accelerating and decelerating your car's engine smoothly and gradually can reduce emissions by 100 times? If you let the tank get less than 1/4 full, the chances for fuel injection and fuel tank condensation issues are increased. Another small change to aim for is to turn off the engine whenever you can; idling creates more pollution and uses more fuel than necessary. Idling, incidentally, is responsible for nearly 3% of air pollution. If possible, try to use a single vehicle for your family if it is at all possible. We have been able to share a single vehicle for nearly 10 years despite both of us working at different establishments and running home businesses. Also, try incorporating the shopping lists to reduce the number of trips to town. For us, planning the menu for a week at a time has greatly reduced the number of grocery shopping trips. We keep a piece of paper on the fridge to jot down anything we are low on as it is discovered. It is important to examine the recipes to prevent extra trips. When shopping in town, park somewhere central and walk to the various stores.

Alternatives for the environmentally-concerned pleasure-seeker exist as well. First, please consider hiking, skiing, biking and canoeing or kayaking in the outdoors. In the city there are commuting alternatives such as biking, walking, skateboards and roller blades. These are all self-empowering, health-promoting activities that operate at very little financial expenditure and result in fewer emissions, and a safer, quieter environment. We can all help the air quality issue by planting landscaping and trees wherever we can. Perhaps if cities were able to offer property tax incentives for planting trees, owners, businesses and schools would be more inclined to invest in the plants. Already, clubs and groups are planting erosion controlling shrubs and trees along riverbanks across the nation.

There is no hope that humans will give up the pleasure and convenience machines provide us with - neither should we be asked to do so. But with all the work towards reducing consumption, to increase wild lands, to protect bio-diversity, and to decrease global warming, it is just crazy to allow any of our machines to be manufactured in an environmentally damaging state any longer. Thankfully, manufacturers and governments have been listening to consumers, and as a result, our machines and industries are being improved. However, we must not release the pressure on them to continue improving their policies and help create a healthier planet.

We can all take action right now and become proactive citizens by making a real and measurable difference - if we choose to do so.

Purity Ensured through Pure Essential Oils

Scholars in English grammar would be livid at the phrase pure essential oils. For them essential oils are by nature pure and adding the expression ?pure? to this is nothing but being verbose. Leave apart the criticism of the scholars, in practice one can regularly come along instances when the essential oils have been mixed with other oils or the customer has been duped with entirely synthetically manufactured oil. So, now you will appreciate the concern for people when they demand pure essential oils.

For the beginners, let us first elucidate about what essential oils are. An essential oil is extracted from different parts of the plant such as stem, leaves, flower, bark etc. You name a plant and an essential oil derived from it will be available. The list of essential oils is really impressive. Some of the most common essential oils include lavender, peppermint, eucalyptus, rose, jasmine, cedar wood and so on. These are derived from a complex process of distillation through water or steam. Certain essential oils like rose leave a fragrant water after the distillation process. This is available in the market as hydrosols. Other hydrosols include lavender water and orange blossom water.

Pure essential oils have been proved to have benevolent effect on human beings. Several adverse conditions can be treated through the proper use of essential oils. The most common of these is treating burns with lavender essential oil. French chemist Ren?-Maurice Gattefoss? found this effect of essential oils as quite interesting. He has contributed largely to the science of using essential oils for medical purposes. This science is known as aromatherapy or treating through plant aroma.

However, essential oils will produce the desired effects only when they are pure. Chamomile essential oil is derived from the chamomile flowers and has a soothing and comforting impact. When used in the bath after the end of the day, one will experience a rejuvenation of the body and mind. Nevertheless, do you get the same effect if the essential oil used is impure? No. Moreover, if an oil to which one is allergic to has been mixed with the essential oil, you can also count on the side effects.

The most common of impurities found in essential oils are pesticides and insecticides. Now, the use of pesticides and insecticides to grow plants has become widely prevalent. In this case, it is very difficult to do away with pesticides to the most miniscule levels. The process of distillation ensures that most of this is removed from the pure essential oils to give just the unadulterated extracts of plants.

Nowadays, organic essential oils have becoming increasingly popular. Organic essential oils are manufactured from organically grown plants. When a plant is grown organically, no artificial fertilizers are utilized. This ensures that the essential oil that you are using is totally free of pesticides. However, be prepared to shell that extra price for procuring organically pure essential oils. Yet no one complains since they are buying essential oils for the desired effect and not just for showing off their collection.

Breast Cancer

The Journey Begins

This is the story of my breast cancer journey, and how gluing magazine pictures onto mat board led me back to my spirit.

In December of 2001, breast cancer was the furthest thing from my mind. I was busy. I had a loving husband, a nice home, three beautiful stepchildren, a good job. Then my perfect little world was suddenly turned inside out and upside down.

A routine, suspicious mammogram. A phone call. Mammogram #2. A stereotactic core biopsy.

My diagnosis: breast cancer, stage 2, infiltrating, ductal, HER2.

All of the above happened within the fearful, anxious, unbelievable time span of 7 days. And my life has never been the same.

The next nine months held a most strange quality of disbelief and exhaustion. It also held two surgeries, four chemotherapy treatments spaced three weeks apart, and 47 radiation treatments (spaced daily, over the course of 9 weeks).

Fears of the Cancer Returning

It's been three years since my life was turned upside down and inside out?. Three years. My prognosis is very good. I hear this every three months depending on which doctor my appointment is with: breast surgeon, medical oncologist, or radiation oncologist.

Three years have passed. I look good. I feel good. And yet nothing has been able to quiet the storms of fear that threaten to overwhelm me from time to time. The insidious fear that the breast cancer might return. The intimidating fear of another potentially deadly diagnosis.

I have meditated and prayed about this. I have talked about it with my wonderful therapist and with other breast cancer survivors. I have tried guided imagery, journaling, and art journaling. These have all tempered the fear to some extent, but only for a very short while.

How SoulCollage? Soothed My Fears

Then I began practicing SoulCollage? and my inner dynamics began to change.

SoulCollage? is a unique blend of spiritual practice and the fun of collage. It was created in 1989 by Seena Frost (www.soulcollage.com) as she worked with friends and clients in her psychotherapy practice.

Using our intuition and imagination, we create a deck of collaged cards where each card reflects a different aspect of who we are. The cards are then used to assist us to access our own deep wisdom and help us answer life's questions. There are four suits in a SoulCollage? deck: The Committee (the inner voices in our minds), The Community (the family and friends who love us), The Companions (animal totems who lend us their energies) and The Council (archetypes who symbolize major life themes for us).

SoulCollage? cards are made using magazine images, scissors, a glue stick, and 5 x 8 pieces of mat board.

It turned out to be the best way for me to deal with the lingering fears that I was left with after my cancer treatments were over. I listened carefully inside of me to the voices that had something to say about my breasts, and my breast cancer, and I made three cards over the course of a few months.

Naming my Inner Voices

The voices I named and then worked with in the coming months were: I am the one who fears breast cancer returning, I am the one who hates her disfigured left breast, I am the one who survived breast cancer and walked away from it (both of these voices were Committee members), and I am the one who gave you the courage to survive breast cancer (an archetype from my Council).

After making the cards, I journaled with them, asking each voice the following questions: Who are you? What do you have to give me? What do you want from me? How will I remember?

The Healing Continues

The entire process of making these SoulCollage? cards and then dialoguing with them led me deeper into my feelings about my diagnosis and all that I had been through on my journey since then. This led me to a very deep and powerful spiritual healing that is difficult to describe, yet very real in my life.

Now, when my fears of another cancer diagnosis threaten to consume me, I simply look at my SoulCollage? card that honors that voice inside of me and I acknowledge it. This voice, this fear will always be a part of me, but I do not have to allow it to control me. I am reminded of this because I also have the other two cards which speak to me of how I found the inner strength and courage to take the breast cancer journey.

Home Remedy for Athlete's Foot Apple Cider Vinegar

One of the oldest and most trusted home remedies is apple cider vinegar. This valuable product has been heavily relied upon throughout the ages to prevent and alleviate a number of ailments. It helps alkalize the body and is rich in potassium, which supports cell growth. Throughout history apple cider vinegar has been used to treat earaches, infections, arthritis, and as an aid in digestion. It has also been said to aid in the detoxification of bodily organs and eliminate warts. It is easily accessible, inexpensive and useful for a variety of disorders and conditions.

For all of these reasons, apple cider vinegar may be the best natural remedy for athlete's foot. It is the ability of this type of vinegar to destroy fungal infections that makes it an ideal natural remedy for athlete's foot fungus. Not only is it considerably less expensive than prescription drugs and even over the counter medications, pure apple cider vinegar relieves the itching that is caused by athlete's foot making it a gentle, all natural answer to this common and painful problem. And best of all, you may already have it in your cupboard.

Athlete's foot is a well-known, persistent ailment caused by fungal growth on the feet. This type of infection occurs when the highly contagious tinea pedis fungus contacts the skin. Often the most affected area of the foot is between the toes, where it is especially warm and moist; however, it may also spread to the rest of the foot. When athlete's foot fungus is given an opportunity to develop, it may first result in an itchy red rash, typically beginning between the fourth and fifth toe. If the infection is not remedied, the skin may become soft and extremely sensitive to the touch. In the most severe cases, the edges of the afflicted area will become white and the skin can peel away, creating a milky discharge.

To combat this unfortunate condition, people have turned time and again to apple cider vinegar. This type of vinegar is made from the liquid extracted from crushed apples. Sugar and yeast are added to encourage fermentation, which turns the sugars into alcohol. It is in the second fermentation process when acetic acid-forming bacteria transform the alcohol into vinegar.

This acidic product can be used to treat feet that have become raw, cracked, and damaged by the fungus that causes athlete's foot. Not only does it relieve the persistent itch that comes with the condition, it also has been reported to rid the body of the fungus that causes the condition. It may not have the most desirable odor, but the relief that is immediately felt as sore feet contact the vinegar will surely be worth it.

An apple cider vinegar foot soak is an effective way to fight athlete's foot fungus. Simply mix one part pure all natural apple cider vinegar with one part warm water and soak for 20 minutes. Feet should be cleaned with a gentle soap both before and after the treatment. It is necessary to make sure that the feet are thoroughly dried after the treatment to prevent the fungus from spreading in a moist environment. If necessary, it is permissible to use this method of treatment twice daily. Depending upon the severity of the condition, the feet should be rid of the fungus within one to two weeks of regular home treatments.

For less severe cases of athlete's foot fungus, use a washcloth or cotton ball soaked in apple cider vinegar. Gently rub the cloth over the affected areas. This treatment works especially well for children who may not be willing to sit for a foot soak as the combination of the vinegar and the rubbing of the washcloth allow instant relief from the itchiness caused by the fungus.

It is wise to take some common sense precautions to lessen your exposure to the fungus as preventing athlete's foot fungus is typically much easier than curing it, it. The most important step you can take is to keep the feet dry, especially between the toes. Ensure that the environment in your socks is inhospitable to fungal growth. Socks that are made of cotton, wool, or other natural materials allow feet to breathe and remain dry. If your feet commonly sweat, see that your socks remain clean and dry, even if this means changing socks during the day. Choose shoes that are well ventilated and give them a chance to dry out before wearing them again. It is also important to reduce the risk of exposure by wearing waterproof sandals or shoes in public showers, locker rooms, and any other warm damp place that may host tinea pedis. Taking proper care of your feet and treating them with all natural apple cider vinegar should ensure that the athlete's foot fungus clears up and does not return.
